Vitamin D and Diabetes 28/07/2011
Vitamin D deficiency and insufficiency have been linked to a number of adverse health conditions. See my earlier post on the latest diagnostic levels http://www.tonyboutagy.com/1/post/2011/06/latest-guidelines-for-vitamin-d-levels-and-treatment.html. Here are two more papers examining the association between sub optimal Vitamin D levels and risk of Type II diabetes: Mitri J, Dawson-Hughes B, Hu FB, Pittas AG. Effects of Vtamin D and calcium supplementation on pancreatic {beta} cell function, insulin sensitivity, and glycemia in adults at high risk of diabetes: the Calcium and Vitamin D for Diabetes Mellitus (CaDDM) randomized controlled trial.
