Level 3
To become a Level 3 Certified BFI Trainer, a student must complete the following:
1. Treating the Metabolic Syndrome Naturally with Nutrition, Exercise & Nutraceuticals (half-day)
Prerequisites:
- Fundamentals & Application of Nutritional Science for the Personal Trainer (Level 1) - note: this course has not yet been held and so will not be required as a prerequisite yet. However please bear in mind that some prior knowledge will be assumed.
- Programming & Nutrition for Fat Loss (Level 2) - note: this course has not yet been held and so will not be required as a prerequisite yet. However please bear in mind that some prior knowledge will be assumed.

Prerequisites:
- Strength & flexibility testing and prescription for the Upper Body (Level 1)
- Strength & flexibility testing and prescription for the Lower Body & Core (Level 1)

- Programming & periodization for strength & hypertrophy (Level 2)
Content:
- Rehabilitating the knee, shoulder, elbow, and back
- A description of common injuries encountered in gyms
- Tests for muscle length, strength imbalance and injury type
- Understanding diagnostic scans
- Rehabilitating injuries with strength training & flexibility prescription
- Postural correction (with Dr Mark McKean)
6. Understanding research (half-day with take home exam)

Content:
- What makes a good and a bad study?
- Choosing which journals to read
- How to write a literature review
- Students will be given a list of topics and must choose one on which to write a literature review. Areas to choose from include: deep core training; functional training; Swiss ball training; misuse of dietary supplements to alter body composition.
